Custom strain gage and flexible circuit assemblies, ready to integrate

Manual strain gage installation is delicate, labor-intensive, and hard to repeat at scale — especially in compact, curved, or hard-to-reach designs. Micro-Measurements' Gage and Flex Assembly combines one or more strain gages with a custom flexible printed circuit into a single, ready-to-integrate sensing assembly with built-in electrical connections.

the challenge

Manual strain gage installation is hard to repeat

Getting strain gages installed correctly takes precision and a high level of operator skill. Multiple small gages must be positioned, aligned, wired, and soldered with tight repeatability — and any error can mean significant rework and wasted material.

That difficulty multiplies in space-constrained designs, deep cavities, curved surfaces, dense assemblies, and hard-to-reach installation locations, where manual steps become harder to control and put both productivity and sensing quality at risk.

the solution

A more repeatable way to integrate strain gages

Our Gage and Flex Assembly offers OEMs a more repeatable way to integrate strain gages into compact, complex, or production-sensitive applications — replacing discrete wiring and manual soldering with a single, pre-engineered assembly.

Manual Installation VS Gage and Flex Assembly
Manual Installation
  • × Delicate, labor-intensive steps requiring a high level of operator skill
  • × Multiple small gages must be positioned, aligned, wired, and soldered by hand
  • × Any error can mean significant rework and wasted material
  • × Harder to control in deep cavities, curved surfaces, and dense assemblies
  • × Hard-to-reach installation locations increase risk to productivity and quality
Gage and Flex Assembly

One or more Transducer Class® strain gages are combined with a custom flexible printed circuit (FPC) to create a complete sensing assembly with integrated electrical connections — delivered ready to install.

This reduces the need for discrete wiring and manual soldering, resulting in less complexity, less variability, and less risk across a wide range of OEM applications.

configuration

Designed around your application

Each flex assembly is developed around the specific geometry, performance requirements, and production needs of your application — with electrical routing, components, and mechanical reinforcement matched to how it will be installed and used.

Single- or Multi-Gage Assemblies

Any Micro-Measurements standard or custom gage, combined into a single- or multi-gage configuration matched to your application.

Integrated Bridge Routing

Half- or full-bridge electrical routing with integrated resistors, temperature sensors, connectors, and TEDS chips as needed.

Custom Flex Geometry

Built for compact, curved, or hard-to-access spaces, with localized or full-length thickening for added mechanical support.

Ready-to-Integrate Wiring

Gages with pre-applied adhesive and pre-connected wires, plus stress-relief features for improved durability.

why it matters

Key benefits of Gage and Flex Assembly

  • Higher production yield through simplified assembly and fewer manual steps
  • Faster installation with reduced setup and positioning time
  • Lower labor costs by reducing manual gage wiring and soldering
  • Fewer installation errors from pre-defined gage placement and routing
  • Increased repeatability with pre-aligned gages in fixed geometry
  • Less dependence on technician skill for delicate handling and soldering
  • Fewer points of failure with integrated electrical pathways
  • Enhanced design freedom for compact, curved, or hard-to-access geometries
